The People Power Revolution: We Got Your Blogs Right Here, Buddy!

Thanks for All the Fish - Saturday, November 29, 2008

by: John Hamilton

The People Power Hour broadcast on Friday, November 27 2008 was the last from the talk studio at AM Talk Radio 1190 WAMT, the station which helped give birth to the show about 15 months ago -- the first show was broadcast September 1, 2007. The program began as a 1 hour Saturday morning show with George Crossley the host and Steve Schwartz the producer. It wasn't until February/March of this year when I took over the reins from Steve.

Over that period of time we've interviewed presidential candidates, senate hopefuls, local politios of damn near every stripe, professors, economists and more...and we've explored topics such as the ill-formed Jessica Lunsford Act; homeless issues; Orlando's ignorant anti-group feeding ordinance and many other controversial subjects. We have been the only show in town to represent the progressive, liberal segment of the metro Orlando area; an oasis amongst the dross of toxic jabbering right-wing hatemongers like Savage, Coulter and their ilk.

Back in September the management of WAMT worked with us to expand the show to 5 nights per week, airing 8pm to 9pm Monday through Friday. After a rocky start, we usually found our legs most nights and put together some important and topical shows. And we tried to have a little fun as well, of course....

A couple days ago an opportunity for the People Power Hour to grow yet again appeared; and so, after a week's hiatus, we're making the move to 810AM WEUS. Initially we'll be filling the 3pm to 4pm afternoon timeslot and then, after a couple of weeks, we're gonna be settling into our new home in the 6pm-8pm slot.

But none of it would have happened without the fine folks at WAMT; Pete Paquette, the Creative Services and Program Director (a whiz with Adobe Audition and a microphone); Nick, our Saturday board engineer; Jeanine, our Monday-Friday board engineer; Bobby Gray, the hardest working station broadcast engineer in show business; Paul Proly, station VP -- and everyone else at the station who had any part at all in the show, no matter how slight -- as well as Steve Schwartz, the program's first producer and main supporter.

We're looking forward to the new opportunity and the new challenge; and we thank those who helped get us started. We hope that all of you who have listened to the People Power Hour on WAMT will continue to do so at our new digs.

I just started listening a couple of weeks ago, and I'm sorry to hear you're leaving WAMT. But I'll check you guys out on December 8th. Good luck!
